Game developer Jay Barnson's now-classic anecdote from the late 1990s about a small team building a 3D combat-sim engine. Months into the project, the lead programmer triumphantly demoed a single rotating black triangle on a colored background — and the room understood immediately why. That black triangle meant the entire renderer, transform pipeline, file loader, asset converter, and frame loop were working.
