Why Go Out?

Heti opens on stage at Trampoline Hall wondering aloud why she and the audience aren't all just at home in their pyjamas, where "no one is going to snub you or disappoint you, the whisky is not cheap, and few of us will get laid." She catalogues four major reasons we leave the house — desire, sociological/aesthetic curiosity, self-testing, and obligation — and works the question over until going out becomes something stranger and more revealing than the casual social act it pretends to be.
